Here at TFW we grew tired of paying ever-increasing prices for modern razors which, notwithstanding their seemingly infinite ability to increase blade numbers, continue to disappoint.  We therefore set out to find a razor that made the daily shave less of an overpriced chore and more of a satisfying ritual.

Merkur has a reputation for providing first class razors and the Futur Brushed Steel is a classic.   These razors are engineered in stainless steel and use a single blade for a clean and close shave and this one doesn’t disappoint.  The weight of the razor provides a good balance when shaving and the stainless platinum safety blades last significantly longer than any others that TFW has used.   The Merkur, as with all razors in this league, necessitates a level of attention greater than your standard off the shelf number.  It therefore takes a few goes to get used to but this is no bad thing as once you are accustomed to it, the Merkur will lead to a far cleaner, and more rewarding, shave with a razor that will last a lifetime.

TFW uses the Merkur with a trio of Dermalogica shaving products.  To prepare the skin for shaving, massage a few drops of the Close Shave Oil into the skin and immediately follow with a layer of Invigorating Shave Gel; post-shave apply the aptly named Post-Shave Balm.  Finally, we always have a Nix Pencil handy for those moments that remind you that you are shaving with a proper blade now.

The razor retails for £43.90 and is available from Mankind here whilst the blades are £4.60 available here (or using the links above).
