Labour and Wait is a store that stocks everyday and functional, yet resolutely traditional, products. Everything on offer has been selected by a discerning eye for classic design in accordance with a strict policy of quality and utility. The store on Redchurch Street (formerly a Truman Brewery pub) can’t be missed with its green tiles and classic branding, which combine to make it difficult to resist going in to explore what is on offer.
A lot of the Labour and Wait products are for the home but the store also stocks a range of (often vintage inspired) clothes and accessories. Whatever you are in the market for, it is clear that Labour and Wait’s belief in a ‘simple, honest approach to design’ is consistently adopted when making stock choices, meaning that even the most understated of objects has a curious satisfaction. The online shop is a good representation of what is on offer in the store if you wanted to get a feel for their product range before visiting.
Here at TFW, Labour and Wait has become a bit of a staple to visit when in East London; particularly when looking for unique or vintage inspired household presents. That said, our most recent acquisition is an entirely selfish one, namely the nautical doorstop, which retails at £60 and, true to Labour and Wait’s ethos, is individually crafted from 18mm Manilla rope by a knotting enthusiast in Suffolk.
